1884 - 1914

Early days of child protection. The London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was established on 8 July 1884, following the guidance from Thomas Agnew. Lord Shaftesbury was appointed as president and Reverend Benjamin Waughand and Reverend Edward Rudolf as joint secretaries.

 

1914 - 1944 (The War Years)

Following the 1916 War Charities Act, the NSPCC began using street collectors to raise money. Branches held annual NSPCC Flag Days, which quickly became highly effective means of raising revenue.
